Her parents split up when she was four and her mum married Paul Price, a fencing firm owner, who gave Katie his surname.
She has an older brother named Daniel, who looks after her website, and a younger half sister, Sophie, who is also a model.
When she was 16 a friend suggested she have some photographs done. To her surprise, the London agency to which she sent them liked them and signed her up.
The agency came up with the stage name Jordan and she soon started appearing in The Sun and men's lifestyle magazines, becoming one of Britain's best-known models.
In 2001 her growing fame led her to stand in the UK general election. Her comical campaign, in which she promised more nudist beaches and a parking ticket ban, ultimately won her 718 votes.
During this period Katie was involved in a high-profile relationship with Dane Bowers from the pop group Another Level.
She has also dated pop star Gareth Gates and the footballer Dwight Yorke, who is the father of her eldest son Harvey.
Born on May 27, 2002, Harvey was found to be blind, owing to a condition called septo-optic dysplasia. He also suffers from autism, puts on weight easily and has difficulty walking.
Later that year Katie was diagnosed with a rare form cancer, but successfully had a tumour removed from her finger.
Though she auditioned for a role in TV series Baywatch in 1998, her TV career didn't take off until she appeared on I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2004.
She fell in love with fellow contestant, Australian singer Peter Andre, on the show and the following February the pair announced they were expecting their first child together.
One month later, she competed to represent Britain in the Eurovision Song Contest, ultimately coming in second place behind Javine.
On June 13, she gave birth to her second child, Junior Sawa Andreas Andre. Three months later, on September 10, she married Peter at a ceremony in Highclere Castle in Hampshire.
Then on June 29, 2007, Katie and Peter welcomed a baby daughter, Princess Tiaamii Crystal Esther Andre.
The pair documented their relationship in several reality TV shows, including the Katie And Peter series, as well as recorded an albums of duets together.
At the same time, Katie also emerged as a successful author and businesswoman. To date, she has published three autobiographies, four ghostwritten novels and two series of children's books, as well as released her own lingerie, haircare, perfume and equestrian lines.
However, the Brighton girl has not always been welcomed into the exclusive equestrian world. In 2008 she was refused entry into the Hurlingham Polo Cartier International match for the Coronation Cup, presented by Prince Charles.
And unfortunately, Katie and Peters’ jungle-born romance was not to last. In May 2009 the couple announced they were separating after five years together.
After her split from Peter, she began dating cage fighter and former Hollyoaks actor Alex Reid, and started to feel more positive about the future. "I'm going to be a much more mature, happy, successful woman," she said. "And hopefully in time I will be married and have more children. I want that 100 per cent, though I'd want to do the relationship a little differently next time round."
In November she returned to the jungle for the new series of I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, but withdrew from the programme after just one week – and proceeded to announce her budding romance with Alex was over live on TV during her exit interview with presenters Ant and Dec.
The couple later reunited, however, and it emerged that Katie had only finished their relationship because she mistakenly believed he had sold his story to a tabloid newspaper.
Katie and Alex became engaged two months later, after the aspiring actor emerged triumphant from the 2010 series of Celebrity Big Brother – beating out competition from Katie’s ex-boyfriend Dane Bowers to be crowned winner.
Just days later, the loved-up pair jetted to Las Vegas and made their union official – getting married at the Wynn Casino on February 2. Katie later went on to reveal they were trying for a baby.
“Trust me, we are trying,” said the newlywed. “Everything happens for a reason and I believe I was meant to be with Alex. We get on fantastically, we have such a laugh together. And he's the fittest man I have ever, ever seen – he really is gorgeous.”
