SIMON Cowell is plotting to turn X Factor's Little Mix into the new Spice Girls.
The youngsters will be handed a record deal worth MILLIONS as early as next
week — whether they win this weekend's final or not — as part of a
masterplan to make them stars on both sides of the Atlantic.
Last night Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall admitted: "We'd love to be as good
as the Spice Girls."
Show guru Cowell, 52, aims to kickstart their career with a lucrative joint
tour with last year's sensations One Direction.
A source said: "Simon is thrilled by the quality of this year's finalists —
but he's extra excited about Little Mix. He genuinely believes they could be
bigger than the Spice Girls.
"He's had huge successes in his career but a massive girl band has not really
been one of them."
The Spice Girls — put together by Cowell's business rival Simon Fuller — were
a worldwide smash with their 1996 debut single Wannabe hitting No1 in 30
countries.
The source added: "Simon is extremely competitive and would love it if he
could beat his old rival at his own game. The Spice Girls set the bar high
but Simon thinks there's no reason Little Mix can't better them.
"They are young and they work phenomenally hard, so the sky's the limit.
"There hasn't been such love for a girl band in years.
"Even Girls Aloud didn't have the initial buzz on Popstars: The Rivals that
Little Mix have had.
"Simon will watch the final via satellite in Los Angeles. He has been showing
all his industry pals there clips of Little Mix, saying, 'Watch out for
these girls — they're going to be massive'."
Cowell is lining up top writers to ensure the four girls get the best songs
and has already boasted how they are better than Posh, Sporty, Baby, Scary
and Ginger.
Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton told The Sun: "I really, really hope they win. I
think they're brilliant to watch and I think they could be really big.
"They work well together and they've got a great connection. I can see they
are having fun and that's what it was like for the Spice Girls. I can see
they've got that edge too."
In Spice Girl style, Jade 18, from South Shields, could be known as BRAINY
MIX after passing 16 GCSEs.
Flame-haired bandmate Leigh-Anne Pinnock, 19 — a former Pizza Hut waitress
also from South Shields — could be REDDY MIX.
Jesy Nelson, 20, from Essex, could be TRENDY MIX for her collection of
more than 90 pairs of trainers.
And Perrie Edwards, 18, from High Wycombe, Bucks, could be ROCKY MIX as
her biological dad is a rock performer and she was named after Journey
frontman Steve Perry.
Last night bookies made Little Mix 11-8 favourites to win. Amelia Lily was 9-4
and Marcus Collins was 2-1.
